RIVERSIDE: MLK brought back the league championship today, its 25th in school history, with a decisive win over Roosevelt. The girls had something to prove today as they were 1 match away from an undefeated league championship. There is a long history of success and league championships and the girls didn’t want to disappoint. As the forecast included strong wind, the girls braced themselves for patience and mental focus. Although the wind did change how they needed to play, every player was affected in the same way. The final score was MLK 12 – Roosevelt 6
As the dust settled on round 1, it was MLK 6-0, with the momentum and positive energy thengirls went 5-1 in the 2nd round securing the win and the league championship. With the focus shifting to the seniors, then many young players played 3rd round. Although Seniors Erica Yin and Lekha Aji teamed up to challenge Roosevelt’s line 1 doubles letting all the parents enjoy a very quality set that they won 6-4. What a great ending to the regular season and senior night. Congratulations seniors Lekha Aji, Erica Yin, and Captain Jocelyn Harris.
Today we also celebrated our September Athlete of the Month, freshman Emi Williams. Emi has had a great month going undefeated in singles. She is a great young athlete and very exciting to watch. Congratulations Emi.
