RIVERSIDE:  The King Wolves hosted the Santiago Sharks at General Old on Tuesday afternoon in what turned out to be quite close competition. The Wolves started their full week of competitions on a strong note and good individual play, but ultimately fell prey to the Sharks with a loss of 232-233.

Emilyn Czaplicki and Sarani Yapa shared medalist honors for the match with a pair of 38s, decorating each of their scorecards with a couple of birdies and a handful of bogeys. Addison Ruan hit her stride in this match, shooting her season-low and tying her personal best round of 45. Alyssa Christensen was close behind with an up-and-down round of 49. Georgia Herbon and Journey Reish struggled a bit more with this match, shooting 63 and 70, respectively.

Coach’s Take: As a team, we certainly had our share of highs and lows today. The atmosphere was pleasant, due to a mutually respectful, yet competitive relationship with Santiago, and the first two groups were in high spirits as they played some of the best golf we’ve seen from them this season. But team golf is reliant on the performance of all its members, and we were able to identify some areas for growth with our newer players. I am pleased, though, with how close of a match it remained throughout the afternoon. Between the confidence of the King players and the home course advantage that General often provides us, the match proved to be better competition than anticipated. Santiago is a strong team, and if we can keep them looking over their shoulders, I would consider that a step in the right direction.

King Girls’ Golf will return to competition on Wednesday afternoon against Roosevelt.
