“This team is fun to watch,” said King High Athletic Director Amanda Chann after taking in the girls volleyball match on Tuesday against Serrano High.
On their home court, the girls continued the growth and accomplishment that has defined the early going of the season.
Sam Miller and Jael Moore had 26 kills between them, while Mariah Eutsey and Brielle Thompson had standout performance as well. Thompson led with assists at 22 for the match. Freshman Kayden Clabaugh said of Mariah’s play ,”she makes passing look super easy.”
“Tonight’s match was a continued preview of the growth we are having as a team and a program,” said head coach Michael Tongg.
Like any good coach, Tongg enjoyed the 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20) but also noted what the team will need to work on going forward, especially as the Big VIII season approaches. “We need to maintain consistent energy on the court,” he said. “We can’t afford to get comfortable we have to keep pushing to give our best on every single point until the match is over. When we get complacent, we start making mistakes that lead to frustration and unforced errors.”
King enjoys a 6-2 record in the opening weeks of the campaign with an eye on continued success. If that happens, there will be even more fun to behold.
