The King girls’ flag football team won their first-round game of the CIF Division II playoffs on Tuesday night, with a 26-12 victory over Shadow Hills High School.

The team delivered a balanced effort for the second week in a row, with the defense playing tough all night and holding Shadow Hills scoreless in the second half.

The offense put together timely drives and protected the ball throughout the game. Quarterback Julianna Magdelo threw four touchdown passes with no interceptions, as well as adding 61 yards rushing on only three carries. Isabella Magdelano had two touchdown catches and two extra points, while Selah Bugingo and Haydien Neihr added the Wolves’ other two touchdowns.

The defense pressured the quarterback all night, producing seven sacks, four by Annabelle Distel, two by McKenzie Dewar, and one by Bailey Mann.

Dewar led the Wolves in flag pulls with 10, while Mann, Distel, and Inaya Pearson each added six flag pulls.

This win advanced King to the second round of the Division II playoffs. They will play Pacifica (Oxnard) at King on Saturday. Pacifica is an athletic team on both sides of the ball, and King will need to keep playing complementary football to advance. The focus and positive energy King has shown over the past two weeks will be key to their success moving forward.
