CORONA:  Centennial is no slouch of a school when it comes to sports and their girls volleyball team is a headliner in that parade of stars as they currently sit atop the Big VIII league standing.  King knew that as they rumbled down the 91 freeway in their big yellow bus toward their Big VIII League rival.

Michael Tongg, King’s head coach emphasized to the team that, “no matter how good the team we are playing is, we need to do our best and focus on our game plan to be successful.”

The unity and cohesive play that the Wolves had demonstrated over the last few matches seemed to disolve in this dog fight as the Huskies went on to win in a sweep,  (14-25, 13-25, 22-25) despite King making a run of it in the third set.

But it wasn’t as lopsided as the score might indicate. “I believe we were successful in multiple ways tonight. We battled with the number one team in our league,” Tongg said.

Mariah Eutsey had a great match and was voted King’s “Player of the Match” while Sam Miller had 4 Kills and 7 digs, Jael Moore had 3 Kills and Caitlin Kiemele had 3 blocks.

King is 3-6 in the Big VIII and 19-8 overall and will continue to press on toward the goal of growing as one and playing good volleyball together … regardless of the opponent.
