HESPERIA:  The Wolves volleyball team (7-2) traveled up to Oak Hills High on Thursday and seemed to all be on the wrong page after the first serve.  It was a bit chaotic, or a “battle” to sync up and play as a unit, according to head coach Michael Tongg. 

“We started slow,” he added, “all on different pages of our book.”

The frustration among the King players was evident, but after dropping the first set 16-25, and then the second (24-26) they turned the page, if you will, and began to play better.

After winning the third set 26-24, Berlin Rodriguez said, “that was crucial and we began to believe we had a chance to win.”

Jael Moore – on her birthday, no less was – was ferocious with her attacks from the front row.  Of her play, Sofia Arroyo said, “Jael had a lot of kills and was very positive throughout the match.” Madison Lenew’s was strong on serving and  Leina Cadena was terrific at the net, blocking the Bulldogs’ effort at securing a home court victory for themselves.  She had 9 kills as well.

Setters Brielle Thompson and Olivia Manley did a great job at balancing the Wolves’ attack and setting all of the team’s offensive attackers.

The fourth set went to King 25-20 and they secured it in the 5th, 15-13, with Jael, fittingly, closing the book on the game with her 15th and final kill of the night.
