RIVERSIDE: After two innings of scoreless softball, King took the lead in the third inning against Centennial after Brooke Lebsock was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to bring in the first run of the game and Cheri Thompson delivered a double to left-center to plate two more.
King scored again on a walk to Sydney Cobb and a fielder’s choice by Jace Margaritis to make it 4-0 but the Huskies responded with a couple of home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make it a 7-4 game.
Kenzie Carlone earned the win in the circle for the Wolves giving up 8 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings of work while striking out four. Ryder Bishop collected the save allowing zero hits in two innings. Lebsock and Thompson provided some damage in the 4/5 spots in the lineup, each driving in two runs.
Lebsock finished with two doubles in four at bats. Freshman Dakota Hyler went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Wolves in hits.
We are a little banged up, the majority of the team is battling some nasty germs, and yet they still found a way to win which the coaches are proud of. We talk about picking each other up, clapping until it’s your turn and the girls really did that today. Players came off the bench and delivered, and everyone is contributing to our team wins. Our two wolf pups, Ryder and Dakota, are producing for us, the veterans are coming through and we know that the middle third of the season is where our team standard really gets tested. We are working to play to that standard every day, regardless of the circumstance.
Our next test is on the road Friday versus Roosevelt.
