DOWN TO THE WIRE, KING TAKES SECOND IN BEAUMONT TOURNEY

The MLK girls flag football team participated in the Beaumont tournament this past weekend. The team won its first two games, beating La Sierra 55-0 and Arroyo Valley 47-0. The final game of the day, for first place in the tournament, was against Beaumont HS, and it came down to the last play. Beaumont ended up winning by a score of 34-27.
There were several standout performances throughout the day. Sophomore QB Juliana Magdelano completed 74% of her passes on the day, throwing for 681 yards and 13 touchdowns throughout the three games. Senior receiver Kristen Mason led the receiving corps with 16 receptions for 246 yards and 4 touchdowns on the day. Receiver Isabella Magdelano added 5 touchdowns, Malia Meza and Mia Sudbrack had 3 each, and Haydein Neahr and Alexis Dombrowski each caught one TD. It was a very productive day for the Wolves’ offense, which put up over 800 yards and 17 touchdowns in three games.
On defense, senior linebacker Inaya Pearson had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Carli Collins, Layla Clabaugh, Inez Martinez, and Londyn Nava each added an interception on the day as well. Junior linebacker Annabelle Distel led the Wolves’ defense with 8 sacks on the day, as well as several flag pulls for loss in the backfield.
