CSDR IS NEXT TO FALL TO KING WINNING SPREE

RIVERSIDE: The CSDR Cubs have gained national attention in recent years for their exploits on the gridiron, (read their inspiring story here) but the Cubs’ girls volleyball team wasn’t able to stop the winning ways of the Wolves on Wednesday as King took the match, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) for another sweep.
Sophia Manley had an outstanding match and was honored by her teammate as the end as their “Player of the Match.”
Sam Miller led the team with 9 Kills followed by Leina Cadena who had 8. Sam Miller and Mariah Eutsey had 10 Digs a piece.
But it wasn’t an easy or smooth path to victory.
“We are again happy that we won,” said Head Coach Michael Tongg, “but our focus was a big struggle tonight.”
Junior Jael Moore wasn’t able to play but took on the roll of leading from the sideline, motivating her teammates to excel. She said, “I think we waited way too long to start taking it seriously and there’s no point at which the other team should have had more points. We heavily underestimated them and it showed in our lack of focus and communication and overall presence in the game.”
Coach Nielsen observed that the team was “easily distracted, and because of that we made mistakes.”
Tongg added, “We had our slow moments, but when it counted we picked it up. The energy went up, the focus went up, and we played together when it mattered.
“We’ve got to stay humble” said Senior Brooklyn Nielsen. A string of victories and shutouts makes that difficult to do, but an old saying warns: Pride goes before a fall.
