Sarah Russell began serving as ML King High’s lead cheer coach in 2025, entering the school’s program with four years of coaching cheer.  In 2021 Sarah was the coordinator of Junior All American Football and Cheer, leading kids aged 5-14 years old in sideline cheer.   She was also a volunteer coach for Orangecrest for three years and at Kennedy Elementary she has served as the HEARTS Cheer coach.  “I love the sport because of the relationships built with teammates and with athletes through working hard and reaching goals,” Sarah says.  That love was formed during her time at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley (Class of ’04) where she was initiated into the world of cheer.

Sarah works as a 1st grade teacher at Kennedy Elementary in Riverside.  She is a  graduate of Cal Baptist University, she majored in Psychology and earned a Minor in Criminal Justice. She earned an Masters of Education from the University of Massachusetts.

Married to her husband Nick since 2009, together they have two children, with their oldest, Trevor (class of ’25) having competed in polo and swim while at Martin Luther King High.  Daughter Olivia will graduate with the Wolves in 2030.

Sarah’s life revolves around her family and their multitude of activities which includes maintaining a “ranch life” on their property in Woodcrest.  It is home not just to the Russell family, but they care for and enjoy a number of animals that include no less than three dogs, multiple cats, six chickens, two horses, multiple tortoises, a rat and a snake.
