RANCHO MIRAGE:   “If it’s baseball season, it’s raining,” said King head coach Justin Solis recently.  Indeed, the February launch of the baseball season coincides with Southern California’s launch of the rainy season

The Boys of King were scheduled to host Rancho Mirage, but the threat of rain and the soggy condition of the field from the most recent storm had the Wolves on the road to find a more hospitable field to play.

It ended up being a good move as the two squads not only got their game in but over nine innings, the Wolves notched the victory, 11-9

Junior James Mejia drove in four runs on three hits to lead tbe Wolves

King collected 14 hits in the game. Senior Jayden Chavez, Jones, Junior Xavier Oropeza, and  Sophomore Adan Diaz each collected multiple hits for King Wolves.

Chavez also stole two bases.

King took the lead in the top of the ninth. Sophomore Diaz singled, scoring two runs, to go up 11-9.

Senior Jason Jones stepped on the bump first. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking one.  Junior Michael Lamb, Sophomore Austin Acosta, Junior Sebastian Stewart, Senior Cory Lacher, and Senior Juaquin “Happy” Ramirez, pitched in relief, with Happy earning the win

The King Wolves will travel to Temescal Canyon for their next game on Friday.
