RIVERSIDE: The Wolves took on the Norco Cougars at General Old on Thursday for their second head-to-head match of the season. With final league standings on the line, the energy was tense as the teams squared up against one another, but on a course as difficult and unrelenting as General, focus had to remain on personal efforts, not the opponents. Ultimately, the Wolves defeated the Cougars 236-253.
Emilyn Czaplicki, once again, claimed medalist honors with a steady round of 38. Fellow seniors Sarani Yapa and Alyssa Christensen were close behind with rounds of 40 and 44, respectively. While dealing with some struggles and finding some successes on the course, sophomore Addy Ruan shot a 48, freshman Georgia Herbon shot a 66, and sophomore Journey Reish shot a 69.
Coach’s Take: I’m very satisfied with the grit that our girls demonstrated today. Each player either had personal or technical issues that they were working through when they teed off today, which easily could have been daunting when participating in arguably the most important match of the season for us. But they worked through their problems with perseverance, and I saw lots of great scrambling and recovery as the girls refused to give up throughout the entire match. We are not done yet, though; with three matches left in the season before we enter prelims and finals in two weeks, this is the time that dedication and focus will be tested the most. We must keep our heads down (golf pun, shout-out Coach Moorman) and keep working so we can finish this season as we started it. With a bang.
The Wolves will return to competition on Thursday at Eagle Glen Golf Club against Santiago.
Season Record: 8-3
League Record: 5-2
