WOLVES STAGE COMEBACK OVER LIONS

RIVERSIDE: After multiple sweeps the girls volleyball team found themselves in an odd sitution on Tuesday against the Arlington Lions: They lost a set.

“We struggled in first set,” said coach Michael Tongg. “Maybe it was the long weekend off, but we had trouble getting our bearings early on.” The Wolves dropped that set 20-25.

But by the time the second set was nearing its completion, the girls from King were starting to dial in. Their passes and the sets were spot on with the hitters.

By the third set, they were firing on all cylandars, and would go on for the win, finishing 25-11 and 25-16 in sets three and four. Now at 16-2, the Wolves overcame the early struggle and found a way to win.

Miller noted that the switch in the momentum happened “when Coach Nielson said that we needed to play with fire and we all immediately picked up the energy”

“I am frustrated with how we started and that it took us till the end of set two to get some momentum and drive,” Tongg remarked. “But,” he then added, “we as a coaching staff were pleased to see the girls finish strong and in sync. This was a good way to end preseason and look forward to our league opener at Corona on Thursday.
