RIVERSIDE:  The Athletic Department is excited to announce the recent hiring of Patrick Macdonald to lead the Wolves Baseball team.

Macdonald is a native of Corona  and has been both a player and coach in the sport of baseball for almost his entire life.  Born in 2000, he first picked up a bat and glove in 2005 and didn’t hang up the cleats until 2024 when he began his coaching career at the collegiate level.

He is a graduate of Hillcrest high School (2018) before going on to compete for the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos and followed that up with a stint at Cal State Dominguez Hills where he earned a Masters Degree in Communications.  He was an excellent player at both levels, high school and college.  While at Hillcrest he was a 3-time Offensive Player of the Year, a 3-time All River Valley League selection and ended his career there the all time home run leader in the school’s history.

Macdonald was a pitcher in college, logging over 170 innings on the mound. He finished with a .317 batting average and earned the Cougar Award and the Big Blue Award for San Marcos.  Macdonald majored in History and was strong in the classroom as he was on the diamond.  He earned CSC Academic All District, CCAA All-Academic and CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll distinction.  In the Fall of 2022 he was honored with the prestigious Mangrum Award for Academic Excellence.

His coaching career began in 2024 with three seasons at San Bernardino Valley College where he helped place over 20 athletes to a four year program after finishing their two years at SBVC.

He has coached a travel-ball team, the West Coast Blackdogs.  His 13U team for the Blackdogs won the open division of the Monster NIT tournament and the Open division of the NCS World Series.  The Blackdogs were ranked as high as #2 in the State according to the USSSA rankings.

In 2022, he served as an intern at the 108 Performance, an elite baseball and softball training program and was an intern at the Art of Pitching organization.

Macdonald enjoys traveling when he can and he resides in Riverside.
