The bats came to life and then some on day 2 of the Carew Classic. The Wolves scored 17 runs on 16 hits in four innings to defeat the Titans 17-0. Nebraska bound senior Brooke Lebsock enjoyed a stellar evening at the plate going 3-3 including a grand slam and two singles to drive in 6 runs in the contest.
Senior outfielder Janai Davis followed Brooke’s lead giving King back to back homeruns in the second inning and the offense didn’t stop there. Junior Jaydan Ybarra broke the game wide open with a 3rd inning grand slam to right field. Addison Christensen, Lynette Vu and Dakota Hyler each collected two hits for the Wolves while Lebsock and Davis produced 3 hits a piece. Ryder Bishop earned the win for the Wolves pitching 4 scoreless innings, allowing four singles while striking out 2.
We were very happy to see our squad bounce back from last night’s tough 2-1 loss. They brought their offense today and they were relentless with their presence and plans at the plate. From the freshmen to the seniors, everyone contributed to this win. They played as one, fed off of each others’ energy and were pretty unstoppable offensively. Jaydan Ybarra had a great night at the plate highlighted by her laser grand slam in the third inning.
Moving the lineup around a little bit tonight seemed to pay off for us and Brooke and Janai provided some serious punch in the middle of our lineup while Addison and Lynnette were excellent table setters in the 1-2 spots. They know this is what they are capable of but one of our senior leaders, Janai Davis, said it best after the game. “It’s not time to get ahead of ourselves. There is still work to do.”
The Wolves return to the dirt Friday morning vs. Eastlake at 11:00 at Peralta Park for day 3 of the Carew Classic.
