KING DROPS FIRST GAME OF CAREW CLASSIC
April 2, 2026

The Wolves came up one run short on Wednesday in the opening round of the Carew Classic against the highly competitive Orange Lutheran Lancers. The Lancers scored first in the second inning after stringing together a couple singles but King quickly answered back in the top of the third to tie the game at one. The only other run of the game, the eventual winning run for the Lancers, came across the plate in the bottom of the third and proved to be all they needed to seal the victory. Kenzie Carlone took the loss for the Wolves surrendering 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work while striking out 4.
Offensively, the Wolves were led by senior Janai Davis who was 2-2 with a walk and junior Addison Christensen who collected two hits as well.
We are never going to be okay with losing, it’s not fun, but this was a solid battle between two talented teams and only one team gets to walk away with the win. Today, the timely hits worked out in OLU’s favor and we couldn’t quite get the clutch hits when we needed them.
There were a lot of little moments that could have changed the game or flipped the momentum but overall our girls competed hard and had nothing to hang their heads about. In the top of the first inning Cheri Thompson hit what we all thought was a 2-run blast to dead center, everyone except the center fielder, who made a great catch to rob Cheri of the homerun. A little wind and that ball goes out and the game changes in the very first frame.
Kenzie pitched very well and kept their hitters guessing which kept us in it. Jace was a beast behind the plate, throwing out a would- be base stealer and making a great play on a bunt attempt by one of their speedsters. We looked like our pre-spring break selves today and although we took the loss, we are feeling good about where we are headed. Next up is game 2 of the Carew Classic Thursday evening at 7:30.
