RIVERSIDE: The Lady Wolves hosted Corona in a league matchup that was also Senior Night for the Wolves.  Scoring started in the 26th minute when Jordan Akparanta beat her defender and was able to blast her shot past the Corona keeper. The score was 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Corona’s attack became more relentless as they applied pressure to the defense. With 3 minutes remaining in the game, a King defender’s pass was picked off by the oncoming Corona forward who quickly shot the ball into the net to make the final score 1-1.

Goalkeeper Lauren Henry played a solid game in goal for her team. She made all the plays she should have made and showed maturity in goal tonight. There was nothing she could have done about the goal that was scored on her.

But the team is really having difficulty in executing when it is needed most. We have faced a string of games where we controlled possession and had as many scoring opportunities as our opponents but have not been able to come up with the wins. As our season winds down, I am counting on the girls to take the lessons we have learned from our games this season and allow us to finish strong.

Prior to the start of the game, seniors Samantha McWaters, Jordan Akparanta, Brya Hudson, Angelina Enriquez, Jaslynn Lopez, Audrey Rios, Natalia Avila, Kyra Christensen, Lilly Guerrero, and Desiree Polanco were honored by their family and teammates. Senior night is always a game of emotions and getting mentally and emotionally ready to play after senior ceremonies is always a challenge. I believe the girls were ready to play tonight in front of their fans and family, but we just could find the goals we needed to pull out the victory.

Our team has tremendous character and belief in one another. We just need to find a path back to our winning ways.
