RIVERSIDE:  Cross town rivalry to head into Thanksgiving Break? Check.

Commanding win over cross town rival? Check.

Going on the road may not mean much when the distance between schools is just 6 miles, but King traveled not quite across the whole town to take on Poly High Friday night. The Bears had a hard time keeping up from the opening tip-off and watched the Wolves pull away early and take a commanding 62-27 victory.

“We took care of business,” said King’s head coach Jesus Martinez.  “We had a very strong first half and put the game away early.”

King was up by 20 points at intermission and never looked back.  Lily Rose Gutierrez led the Wolves with 22 points and 4 steals, while senior captain Martha Firmo added 16 points and 6 assists.

The game hopefully will serve as a momentum builder as the Wolves will enter the Bishop Amat Holiday Classic next week. Martinez’s squad is off to a good 3-1 start to the season.
