RIVERSIDE:  At Riverside’s picturesque tennis complex nestled in the hollow of Andulka Park, the Big 8 League began their girls tennis championship rounds on Tuesday.

MLK had senior Zoe Zhang the #4 seed and freshman Adriana Huston the #5 seed in singles. On the doubles bracket MLK had  junior Jocelyn Harris and freshman Aahi Tripathi the #1 seed and senior Grace Zhou and sophomore Angie Woo the #6 seed.

Unfortunately in the early rounds of play unseeded freshman Naomi Zhang took a fall and had to retire due to injury.

All other teams played well and advanced to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals Adriana played very well, but lost to the #3 seed. Senior Tiana Patel and sophomore Dora Zhou also played well, but couldn’t find the games needed to beat the #2 seed. Zoe, Jocelyn, and Aahi used their position in the draw well, playing very consistently, and secured their place in the semifinals.

Grace and Angie came out a little flat against the #3 seed, but after losing the 1st set (1-6) they won the 2nd set (6-0) and the 3rd set tie break (10-8).  It was a great moment for these girls as their determination and focus helped them stay in the match and change the momentum in their favor.

Zoe, Jocelyn, Aahi, Grace, and Angie will all be playing in next Tuesdays Semifinals. By advancing they also will be named to the Big VIII All League team for 2025.
