NORCO: The MLK Wolves girls golf team took on the Centennial Huskies in an away match at Hidden Valley GC in Norco, CA, and left with the win of 209-245. The wind and challenging course got the first laugh, but our players turned it around after the first hole and battled back to secure three career personal bests and three more impressive rounds.

Sarani Yapa was our key player today, carding a dominating two-under-par round of 34 and securing match honors. Addison Ruan and Alyssa Christensen also shot their career lows of 44 and 45. Sophia Llamas, Taylor Lauritzen, and Samantha Woolweaver fought hard as well, posting 39, 47, and 50, respectively. While we’re still striving for our program record, we did set our new season record today.

This felt like a big payoff for all the hard work our girls have been putting in recently. We’ve worked on earning each others’ trust and respect, both as coaches and players, and our victory today felt like a key example of our players and coaches working as one cohesive team to play our best and succeed.

Furthermore, after a long week of three competitions, it was great to see our girls push past any previous disappointments or struggles to play some of their best rounds yet. We know we still have work to do and shots to drop, and our next big goal will be that of consistency; a moving goalpost for even the most experienced of golfers. But we will work on taking the success of today and replicating it, rather than accepting it as a one-off. We did well today, and for that, we coaches are very proud and very grateful. Yet, we know we can do even better, and we commit ourselves to achieving that too.

League record: 4-1

Season record: 6-3
