Jimmy Kirkemo was the first in a long line of the great wrestlers at Martin Luther King High School. It can easily be argued that he set the standard for the Wolves history of great wrestling excellence.   Jimmy was a three year varsity letter winner and a two-time league champion with a second place finish in 2001. He was a three time CIF qualifier finishing 3rd in his weight class in 2003. He was named the team’s Most Outstanding wrestler three times. Jimmy also qualified twice for the Master’s Meet.  In his senior year, Jimmy was CIF Champion-Master’s Champion and finished 6th at the state meet. “Pound for pound, Jimmy was one of the most athletic kids I have ever coached,” said longtime King Wrestling Coach Harlan Kistler.

In his spare time, Jimmy competed on the track team and in football.  He was a two year letter winner and in 2003 was league champion in the pole vault and a CIF qualifier. When he graduated, he held both the Pole Vault and Triple Jump records. He is still in the top 20 All time in the triple jump. After graduation, Jimmy went on and wrestled for two years at Cal-State Fullerton. Jimmy is currently an electrician for Johnson Petler Electric in Orange County.
