Jesus Martinez made his start at King in the summer of 2011. Since then, MLK Girls Basketball has won 282 games-an average of 20+ wins per season-and made the CIF playoffs each year.
Coach Martinez graduated from Notre Dame HS in Riverside CA, where he played Baseball and Basketball. He continued his basketball career at the University of California, Riverside, where he played for 2 years under Coach Masi and Coach Spencer. Coach Martinez earned two BA’s (Spanish Language and Philosophy), a Masters in Spanish Literature, and a PhD in Spanish Literature from UCR.

Coach Martinez began his coaching career at JW North HS, where he coached under Bryan Jones. He was hired as Head Coach at Martin Luther King HS in the Summer of 2011.
In 2016, the Lady Wolves had a record-breaking season, winning league for the first time in almost 10 years and winning a total of 28 games. They made it to the semi-finals of CIF.
In 2019, Martinez led the Lady Wolves to their 1st ever CIF Division 1 Final and won a record-setting 31 games. For the 1st time in school history, the Lady Wolves also reached the CIF State playoffs, where they made it to the regional semi-finals. In 2020, The Lady Wolves won league for the 4th year in a row, and made it to the CIF State Playoffs, where they once again made it to the regional semi-finals.
