CHINO HILLS:  The MLK Wolves faced off against the rest of the Big VIII Tuesday on the North Course at Los Serranos Country Club. It was a beautiful, albeit warm day, and the girls took the challenging, par 74 course head on. Sarani Yapa rallied after a slow start, shooting -1 on her latter 13 holes and finishing +2 with an excellent 76. She’ll be tied second heading into Thursday’s finals. Sophia Llamas also had a strong day, carding a steady 83 and securing 7th place.

Alyssa Christensen shot her personal best on 18 holes with a +26 round of 100, taking 17th place in the tournament and just missing the cut line to move into Thursday’s finals, which is a very respectable ending for her first high school golf season. Taylor Lauritzen ended her career well as well, carding a 105 and finishing in 18th place. Samantha Woolweaver battled through some struggles to shoot a 109, and Addison Ruan was right behind with a 110.

While we would have loved to get a couple more players through to the finals, we know our girls put their best out there and fought all day. We look forward to Thursday, when Sarani and Sophia return to Los Serranos to play the South Course against the other top 16 from the league. They will compete to qualify for seven coveted spots in CIF Individual competition, which will once again take place at Los Serranos next week Monday.
