Game 1
King 9, Los Alamitos 4

Game 2
King 3, Notre Dame Sherman Oaks 5

The Wolves  once again earned a split in their second day of the Pacifica Tournament on Saturday. Game one of the day was marked by resilience and last inning heroics from the entire lineup to secure a 9-4 win after trailing the entire contest against the Griffins. The Wolves put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, all with two outs, to shock Los Al and earn the victory. Jace Margaritis and Janai Davis were both 2-3 in the game with a walk a piece while Addison Christense delivered some key hits in the nine-hole and finished 2-4. Freshman lefty Ryder Bishop threw the first four innings for the Wolves before passing the ball to junior Kenzie Carlone who finished the final 3 frames and collected the win. Together both pitchers struck out 7 Griffins and held them to 7 hits in the game.

Game two didn’t get any easier as the Wolves took on Notre Dame from Sherman Oaks. Despite scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on a leadoff single by Brooke Lebsock and a triple by Addison Christensen, the Wolves battled back and forth with Notre Dame for most of the game. The Wolves used all three of their pitchers in the game starting with Junior Jaydan Ybarra who threw three innings, followed by Kenzie Carlone for two innings and Ryder Bishop in the final frame.

As a staff, the three pitchers gave up 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. The Wolves offense outhit Notre Dame, finishing the game with 8 hits led by Brooke Lebsock and Addison Christensen who were both 3-3, but the lineup failed to capitalize on three innings with runners in scoring position with less than two outs. The Wolves came up short in the contest by a score of 5-3.

Five games into the season and the coaches are really pleased with the level of softball being played by our Wolves. We have faced some really strong squads and we are encouraged to be 3-2. The approaches at the plate, the focus on playing clean defense, the execution by our pitchers and catchers on whom the most pressure sits– it has all been really fun to watch. Everyone is in sync and doing their part and most importantly, are eager to get better. There are no words to describe the web gems we have already seen on defense and the patience and plans they are exhibiting at the plate. The maturity and confidence of this team is going to serve them well, it already is.

Next up, Wolves host Yucaipa on Wednesday at 3:30.
