TENNIS DROPS CLOSE MATCH TO SANTIAGO

This season of girls tennis has been very challenging as King had only 3 starters return out of the 9 from last season. Based on that knew we were going to have some very close contests with Roosevelt and Santiago.

The girls put in a tough preseason to be prepared and that showed with a far the girls won 10-8 against Roosevelt last time out, but on Thursday, the girls lost 9-9 to Santiago.

MLK came out swinging with a 4-2 1st round but couldn’t sustain it in the second, falling short there 2-4.

Going into the last round of the day everyone knew if was going to be a very close contest. As the the last set finished the overall score was 9-9, but Santiago edged King out by 78 games won to King’s 70. I think the girls gave it their best effort today and we just weren’t able to get the games or sets we needed, but overall it was a great contest.  Standouts on the afternoon were in doubles, as Jocelyn Harris/ Aahi Tripathi and Grace Zhou/ Angie Woo all swept the Sharks.

King will start 2nd round play in the Big 8 next Thursday with the second match of the season against Roosevelt and will look to have another good result.
