SOFTBALL GETS THE ONES, WIN STREAK CONTINUES

It was all ones on the scoreboard as the Wolves scored 11 runs to the Lion’s one. The win over Arlington High extended their win streak after the very successful trip to Fresno over the weekend.
King jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning scoring five runs after Callie Portillo doubled and Sydney Cobb delivered a 2-run single.
King added to the lead in the third inning with a double by freshman Dakota Hyler following an error by the Lions’ defense. Seniors Callie Portillo and Cheri Thompson each drove in three runs for King while senior outfielder Sydney Cobb finished the day going 2-3. Kenzie Carlone earned her fifth win of the season giving up two hits in 4 innings of work before handing the ball over to Ryder Bishop who struck out three and gave up two hits in the final two innings of the game.
Although we had a fast start scoring five runs in the first inning, this was not our best game to date. We played a little flat and we were definitely aware of the temperature outside, but we still found a way to get it done. The defense continues to play some really good softball behind our pitchers. Portillo threw out two runners at first base from right field on what should have been singles, taking the wind out of their sails and stifling any chance of a rally. We need to keep swinging the bats with intent, sticking to the game plan and passing the bat. We are really eager to keep things rolling as we start league play on Friday.
