RIVERSIDE: The King girls hosted Centennial in a crucial league matchup. Centennial opened scoring with a trick play corner kick one minute into the game that caught the King girls unprepared. King had several good scoring chances in the half but were unable to convert.
At halftime, the score was 1-0 Centennial. Five minutes into the second half, a drop ball was awarded due to an injured player. Again, the Lady Wolves seemed unprepared, and a ball was played forward that got behind the King defense and found an open player who was able to score. Centennial scoring was finished in the 52nd minute when a long ball found a central forward who ran past the last King defender to score on a 1 v 1 attack against the King keeper. In the 72nd minute, Junior Gianinna Barillas was able to place an outside shot over the outstretched arms of the Centennial keeper to make the final score 3-1 Centennial.
This was a tough loss for the girls. They understood the importance of this game as they look up in the league standings at the teams ahead of them. We will go back to work to prepare for our next game as we continue to take one game at a time. Senior Jaslynn Lopez added, “We played Centennial and came up short. Our chemistry will stay strong, and we will learn to play for each other. Now we just have to execute better so that our results match our effort.”
Junior Kayden Wallace played a game with great determination and heart. Her decision making was brilliant and her touches on the ball were excellent. It was a game that she can build on for her future.
