RIVERSIDE:  The MLK Wolves reentered the ring against the Norco Cougars on Tuesday, this time on our own turf, and the team defended the den with a solid 216-270 win. Despite being few in number, the Wolves were strong today, and Sophia Llamas took home match medalist honors with an impressive 1-over round of 37. Her teammates followed close behind, with Sarani Yapa shooting a 40, Samantha Woolweaver a 44, Alyssa Christensen a 45 (tying her personal best), and Addison Ruan a 50.

We were proud of all of the girls’ successes today, but we were most pleased with the noticeable improvement on the greens. At the beginning of the season, we coaches heavily stressed the importance of putting and its ability to shave strokes off our scores.

We’ve drilled our team heavily at practice, and their strength is showing; all five of our players today shot “under par” on the greens with 18 and less putts over the nine holes. Sarani led the team with 13 putts, Sophia had 14 putts, Samantha had 15 putts, Alyssa had 17 putts, and Addison had 18 putts. This is a huge accomplishment for our team, and we couldn’t be prouder of the girls. We’re hoping to transfer this comfort on the greens to our next match, which is this Thursday at Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona, which is Santiago’s home course and our most anticipated match of the season.

League Record: 4-2
