2024-25 Golf, Boys Head Coach

Coach Takano began his coaching in 2021 as an assistant coach in boys golf and was promoted to the head job in September, 2022. A teacher at King High since 2013, Riley teaches AVID, US Government and on occasion has also taught World and US History. His entire career has been exclusively at Martin Luther King High School.
“It was a great experience going undefeated in my first season as the assistant coach. I’m hoping to build on that success and have a 3-peat league title,” he said.
A graduate of Cal State Fullerton, he earned a BA in History in 2012, ironically while attending Fullerton on a singing scholarship. He is a gifted musician as well. He would earn his California Teaching Credential from UCR in 2014 and then soon went back to school, again at Cal State Fullerton to take his MS in Educational Technology in 2017.
Takano has been playing golf since childhood, mainly with his grandfather in those days at Canyon Crest Country Club. While it was mainly a recreational endeavor, in recent years Takano started taking the game seriously on a personal level and is currently a 4 handicap player with his lowest round being a 74 (+2) at Canyon Crest Country Club.
The love of the game, playing with his father and grandfather all while getting to compete is what draws him to the sport. He’s still searching, however, for his first hole-in-one amid his share of close calls.
Married to his wife Julia Takano since 2010, together they are raising two daughters, Aris and Cadence. The whole family has deep Riverside roots. Julia also teaches in RUSD as a 3/4 SDC teacher at Alcott Elementary where my girls attend
