KING CROWNS DOUBLES CHAMPIONS IN BIG 8 LEAGUE

RIVERSIDE: In the morning semifinals of the Big 8 League Championship for girls tennis, Zoe Zhang came out strong taking the 1st set 6-3. Her opponent countered back winning the 2nd set 6-4. In the decisive super tie break for the 3rd set Zoe just fell short 4-10.
It is never easy to move on from a close loss like this, but with only a 1 hour break before the 3rd place match Zoe had to regroup and move forward. In the 3rd place match she took the 1st set 6-4 before her opponent retired due to illness. Congratulations to the Big VIII league 3rd place singles player Zoe Zhang. What a great tournament.
On the doubles side Grace Zhou and Angie Woo had a tough semifinal against the Roosevelt #1 team. They just couldn’t break through their opponents’ play and lost 2-6, 3-6.Jocelyn Harris and Aahi Tripathi. were matched against the Roosevelt #2 team. The 1st set went back and forth ultimately going to a tiebreak in which Roosevelt edged them out 7-5. In the 2nd set Jocelyn and Aahi were able to close it out 6-4 taking it to the 3rd set tie break. The girls were able to secure a spot in the finals with a 10-7 win.
In the 3rd place game Grace and Angie came out strong winning the 1st set 6-3 and were ahead 2-1 in the 2nd before their opponents were forced to retire due to an injury. Congratulations to the Big VIII League 3rd place doubles team Grace Zhou and Angie Woo.
In the doubles final Jocelyn and Aahi won the 1st set 6-2, but the Roosevelt #1 team fought back, winning the 2nd set 6-3. Another 3rd set tie break was needed to decide the championship. Coming from down 4-8, the girls made a great run of quality points to win the set 11-9. You couldn’t have asked for a more exciting final. Congratulations to the Big VIII League Doubles Champions Jocelyn Harris and Aahi Tripathi.
Jocelyn and Aahi qualified to play in the CIF Individuals sectional on November 24th.
