RIVERSIDE: It is not so much a cross town rivalry as it is an “across the street” rivalry as King drove the half-mile-or-so down Van Buren Blvd to take on Woodcrest Christian in volleyball on Thursday.
The Wolves struggled in the early going and it would end up costing them the win. “We need to work on staring off stronger in sets 1 and 2” said King head coach Michael Tongg.
But despite the 1-3 loss, the effort was strong throughout. “We battled every point of the match and had good defensive stands,” Tongg said. He added, “We had multiple players step up in sets 3 and 4 to produce great results. Logan McKee and Clyde Zak had some great passes on defense, Givanny Madott distributed the offense well, and Bradley Mullen had some key blocks and kills in the match.”
Ezra Martinez added, “Logan McKee was very vocal and a leader and stepped up.”
The loss stings a bit, but Tongg was impressed by the way everyone in the program was supportive of the effort. King is now 13-5 on the season
