RIVERSIDE: The Wolves went to UCR to compete in the inaugural CIF Sanctioned Unified Flag Football Invitational. Unified sports are sports in which teams consist of students with and without disabilities. It was not only CIF’s inaugural tournament, it was MLKHS’ first time competing with a Unified Flag Football team. Our co-ed team consists of 9 players; 5 athletes (students with disabilities) and 4 partners (students without disabilities).
The Wolves went 2-0 on the day defeating Murrieta Valley 27-20 and San Bernardino 34-8. The team was carried by offensive performances from Jesse Wood and Kendyjon Holmes who each had 4 touchdowns on the day. Freshman, Landen Kerr was rock solid as quarterback and led the team to two breakout offensive performances. On defense the team was led by Daniel Chavez who had 3 interceptions on the day and Matthew Morales who returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns.
MLKHS will return to action Thursday, 12/11 at UCR to compete in the championship bracket. They earned a #4 seed and first round bye and will play the winner of Santiago HS and San Bernardino HS.
