RIVERSIDE:   The King girls hosted Don Lugo High from Chino in a finals week game. In the 37th minute, Sophomore Lucy Allen started off scoring by taking a Jordan Akparanta pass and dribbling 30 yards down field while evading the opposing defenders. When she got into the box, she cut inside and shot the ball past the outstretched arms of the Don Lugo keeper.

With the score 1-0 at halftime, there was still plenty of game left. At the 43rd minute mark, Lucy  found Kayden Wallace with a long diagonal ball that Kayden one touched a pass behind the defensive line to Jordan to calmly shot the ball into the goal to make it 2-0 King. In the 55th minute, a free kick was played into the box and Jaslynn Lopez headed the ball to the waiting foot of Lucy who chipped the shot into the goal to make it 3-0 King.

Don Lugo did not give up and was able to score in the 67th minute when a player drove toward the King keeper and snuck a ball in behind her. With the score 3-1, Don Lugo had a free kick from just outside the box that they were able to shoot past the King keeper to make the final score 3-2.

We focused before the game about executing better in the final third of the field and converting our shots into goals. Tonight we did a better job of executing the game plan and the rese results show the rewards of our efforts.“We played together and competed the whole game. We need to improve our shots and execution to secure our spot at CIF,” said King’s keeper, Lauren Harvey

We had a long talk tonight about how when we have a lead and bring in fresh players to gain valuable experience, they need to be ready to play as well as the players they came in for. We gave up two quick goals late in the game and needed all the starters to reenter the game to seal the victory.

Tonight, we finally showed what our attack can look like if we work together as a team and execute the game plan.

And if a narrow loss produces that kind of outcome, then it might just be as good as a win

King is now 6-2-2 (0-0)
