RIVERSIDE: The King girls hosted Patriot in a very competitive game that tested both teams. Scoring opened up in the 27th minute when Lucy Allen slotted a well-timed pass to Angelina Enriquez who was able to convert the pass into the first goal of the game. The scored remained that way until the end of the half. With 12 minutes left in the game, a King defender was called for a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick being awarded to Patriot. The Patriot player was able to score the penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. After twelve more minutes of furious play, the game ended at 1-1.
Enriquez said afterwards, “After the results from last week, we were able to come together and have a better game. Even though it didn’t end the way we hoped, everyone worked together until the end. We just have to reflect off of tonight and continue to do better in our next game.”
Indeed, the girls were disappointed because they felt they had done enough to secure the win. With the second penalty kick goal we have given up in three games, it can be frustrating when you feel you have played so well the rest of the game.
We continue to struggle finishing in the final third of the field. We have set season highs for our possession and completed passes but have not been able to capitalize on it with goals.
We did not have a strong game last Friday and today was our chance to show what we had learned from that game. Our defense was more unified and played together better as a unit. Our midfielders played with great heart and effort and gave us good chances. Our forwards put in the work necessary to be successful, but our decision making on our attacks has room for improvement.
The team is now 5-2-2 (0-0)
