A BEAUTIFULLY TOUGH AND GOOD DAY FOR GIRLS GOLF

On Monday, September 29, the MLK Wolvesg girls golf team played in the Ayala Fall Classic Tournament, hosted by Ayala High School, at Western Hills Country Club today. The girls fought hard against a very challenging course and strong opponents, and they ended the day in 14th place out of about 20 teams with a total of 486. Sophia Llamas led the pack today with an 83, followed closely by Sarani Yapa at 88. Addison Ruan and Samatha Woolweaver were next with 100 and 104, and Taylor Lauritzen and Alyssa Christensen finished up with 111 and 114.

It was a beautiful day in Chino Hills, and that was our focus for the day; enjoying a tough but pretty course with many other good players. It was a stacked tournament, to be sure, but it’s important for our girls to play against strong teams in order to become stronger ourselves. The more we play 18 hole tournaments, the better prepared we will be for our league finals, which are also 18 hole matches. It also helps us train for the post-season, and demonstrating our abilities as a team in an impressive tournament like this ensures that we are properly seeded when it comes to CIF competition. We will continue to work on stamina and in-round scrambling, because golf is not a game of perfection, but rather mis-hits and recoveries.

Overall, we coaches are proud of our girls and their showings today, particularly since it was the first time a few of them have ever played in 18 hole tournaments, yet they toughed it out and competed among the best. We will harness this grit for our match against Roosevelt on Tuesday 9/30 at home.

League Record: 3-1

Season Record: 6-3
